Salwa Palace was built in 1766 by Imam Abdulaziz bin Muhammad bin Saud to serve as the seat of power for the First Saudi State.

From here, the rulers of the Al Saud family led unification campaigns and managed state affairs until the fall of
Diriyah in 1818 at the hands of Ottoman forces under the command of Ibrahim Pasha.


The palace is part of the Al-Turaif district, which was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010 due to its historical and architectural significance .
